We need to get more involved with our e-waste
Consumer behaviour needs to change: buy fewer electrical and electronic devices, use them longer and, when they are really used up, return them. Sounds logical, but people don’t always behave rationally. History, other cultures, and even grieving processes show that greater visibility and a sense of community lead to more engagement and fewer negative feelings. This offers starting points for behavioural change, conclude Flora Poppelaars and Andische Azad from a study they carried out for the European INCREACE programme. Last month, they presented their insights at the Electronic Goes Green conference in Berlin.
