A Chemicals Perspective on Designing with Sustainable Plastics
The development of plastic products does not systematically take sustainability into account. A chemicals perspective is even more exceptional. By applying a chemicals lens during the plastic material selection process, designers and engineers can make informed decisions on how to manage the complexity of finding sustainable plastic for their products. This is according to a recent report by the OECD ‘A Chemicals Perspective on Designing with Sustainable Plastics. Partners for Innovation supported the organization with drafting the report and conducting two casestudies on biscuit wrappers and detergent bottles.
The OECD-report seeks to enable the creation of inherently sustainable plastic products by integrating sustainable chemistry thinking in the design process. It provides an integrated approach to sustainable plastic selection from a chemicals perspective.
